BEAUSOLEIL
How to get to Beausoleil
Beausoleil is a tiny French mountain town pinned to its cliff face by Monaco which, needless to say, is a very international destination. This means that Beausoleil has all the benefit of Monaco's highly developed infrastructure and public transport system, in particular the trains and buses. All in all this means that Beausoleil is a simple location to get to.
See below for getting to Beausoleil from distant locations or scroll down for more local information.
Getting To Beausoleil By AirThe closest airport to Beausoleil is Nice Cote d'Azur International. It is France's second busiest airport, after Paris and there are daily scheduled flights from almost every continent.
There are daily direct flights from North, South and Central Europe as well as North Africa, the Middle East, the United States and Canada. Check out the airport website to see which airlines fly and to get their details. It's a good site and is in multiple languages.
Getting To Beausoleil By RailThe European rail network has been in operation for many generations as it was the first mode of mass public transport into the French Riviera, inspired by her famous and far-flung fans. There are several online cooperative sites that will coordinate inter European rail travel and make booking tickets and planning journeys a one stop shop. A good service as the independent rail companies criss crossing Europe can have difficult websites to comprehend or translate. Look in the RG Diectory under 'Transport' in any area to find details of useful websites.
From most European major cities, the Eurostar or National French train links connect through Paris. From Paris the TGV (high speed train) takes you as far as Nice and from there you will need to catch the train to Monaco in order to get to Beausoleil. There are Taxis in a rank outside the main exit although most places are a short walk away.
From the Italian side, trains from Rome arrive direct into Monaco while those from Eastern Europe, Milan and Turin connect through Genoa. For information on trains further afield use the contact details in the RG Directory.
Monaco is serviced by the same trains and services as other French coastal towns, it simply appears as destination on the Train line. You don't have to look for separate services or different lines. Book online and use the website to find discount summer seasonal tickets, for example the Carte Isabel.
Getting To Beausoleil By RoadThe road network in most of Western Europe is exceptionally good and in particular people find navigating through France very simple. There are a few tips that may help you to make this process even easier with regards to driving in France in general.
The motorways in France are signposted with blue signs. They may also be marked with the word 'Péage' and this means that you are going onto a tolled section of the motorway. It does not mean that you necessarily will end up paying a toll, especially if you are just moving about locally and you use an exit that doesn't have a toll booth. You can check online, however, on the French Autoroute website to get an exact price before you leave.
The free national routes or 'RN' roads are marked with green sign posts. The roads are toll free and they often skirt the towns in a series of roundabouts and by-pass sections. They are slow and can be heavy with local traffic but they are also more scenic and easier to skip into local towns for breaks or food.
When you are navigating through France it is better to have a list of place names that are en route rather than road numbers. Also know the names of the small local towns (on white sign posts) that you'll be passing through as well as the larger cities in which direction you are headed (on green or blue motorway signs).
The fuel stations on the motorway services are convenient but you will be paying a premium price for that service. The cheapest places to fuel up are at the supermarket petrol stations of which most reasonable sized town has at least one, so choose a town and take the exit if you prefer to save some money. Choose a town close to a motoway exit and take in a bit of sightseeing or lunch too.
The 'péage' motorways will cost you money but they are not necessarily more expensive. They are generally faster, often cutting the journey time in half, but they will also save you close to a tank of fuel on long distance journeys. The reason for choosing your route then is either for speed or scenery as opposed to cost.
Beausoleil is accessible by several motorway exits depending on which side you want to arrive into as it sprawls the length of Monaco and is close to both La Turbie and Roquebrune. The motorway is the A8 which runs east to west along the Cote d'Azur. Exit at junction 56 (Monaco exit), junction 57 (la Turbie exit) or junction 58 (Roquebrune exit) to access Beausoleil and follow signs for Beausoleil or Monaco.
Getting to Beausoleil by seaGetting to Beausoleil by route of the sea is not the most convenient way to travel unles you are under your own steam in your own vessel. The main ferry routes into France are in more northerly ports as the Mediterranean is largely used for pleasure boaters and holiday cruisers. Entering France by sea on a commercial ferry route will leave you on the north or western coast and from there you will have to link up to with the road network or rail links.
There are plenty of cruise companies that operate in and around Monaco, the nearest destination to Beausoleil, and there are also visitor berths in Monaco port, if you have your own boat, which will allow you to access Beausoleil, for all intents and purposes a suburb of Monaco. Look in the RG Directory to see contact links for the capitanerie in Monaco's ports.
How to get around Beausoleil
Beausoleil is a pretty small place and is easily accessible by foot. Parking is not always so easy and you'll have to rely on parking facilities attached to your holiday rental accommodation or public car parks. There is however great public transport and if the steep gradients don't put you off then walking around is the best course of action.
 | | If you arrive into Nice Cote D'Azur airport there is a Taxi rank just outside the door of the arrivals halls of both terminal one and terminal two. They are fairly notorious for being quite expensive though and the journey will cost between €70 and €80.
Prices will vary depending on the time of night and the amount of luggage you have. Once in Beausoleil there are local companies and also several Monegasgue Taxi companies.

Have your destination written down if you struggle with French pronunciation. |
 | | Beausoleil doens't have it's own train station exactly but the Gare de Monaco backs onto one of the streets in Beausoleil, as an illustration as to how close the two places are. Use Monaco as your stop coming from either the Nice direction or Italy direction.
From Nice the trains run right along the seafront regularly throughout the day and evening to Monaco until about midnight, thereafter there are late night buses. |

The trains running into Monaco are French so you can look up timetables and fares on the internet. |
booking onlineThe SNCF website is not very user friendly if you are a tourist. It is excellent to use as a guideline for train times but there are no other language translations and if the site is unable to sell you a ticket within the time frame that you specify then it will not always list every train time. It is great to use if you are planning well in advance or to gauge how long journeys take but pick up free pocket-size train timetable in the stations for total accuracy and independence.
| There are four bus lines that criss cross the town of Beausoleil from the Malbousquet area on the western edge of the town, to Devens in the north,Tenao in the east and down into Monaco to the South. They are the 11,12,13 and 14 lines and tickets cost €1 or you can buy a book of tickets.
The distances are short, 20minutes from east to west, and you can find details of the timetables online. You can also go into the tourist office and find out any information that you need.

You can buy tickets from the bus drivers and also multiple journey tickets valid for that day saving time and money. |
bus operatorsThere are multiple bus companies across the Riviera; Ligne d'azur, TAM, Compagnie de Autobus de Monaco for example, that operate intercity and in the suburbs of the many towns and villages. It was all getting a bit confusing. The Conseil Generale, however, decide to simplify things and standardise the bus fares across the region. Now you can hop on a bus from Nice to Monaco or Cannes to Antibes and the fare will be a standard €1.30 across the board. This coming year may even see the prices drop further to €1.00.
Nice's main bus station is Gare Routiere where many of the regions buses depart from for local routes as well as to more distant European locations. To reach Beausoleil from Nice you are looking for the Nice-Eze-Beausoleil route which is the number 112. The 100 will bring you to Monaco and may also be an option.
You will alight on Avenue du General de Gaulle in Beausoleil. View your timetable before departure by looking online, website available in English, Italian and German.
| You can access Beausoleil by several different roads. There are four main routes along this part of the coast; the Basse Corniche, Moyenne Corniche, Grand Corniche and the A8 motorway.
The most direct route is along the Moyenne Corniche as this road runs right through the heart of Beausoleil between Nice and Italy. You can also drop down from the Grande Corniche through La Turbie or up from the Basse Corniche through Monaco. |

You'll avoid Monaco traffic and the toll is €1.10 cheaper. |
 | | If you want to do things in real style there is always helicopter transfer. This is by far the quickest, most scenic and most glamourous way to arrive. There are several operators from Nice airport with scheduled daily flights.
The Heliport is located in Fontvieille, in Monaco which is the commercial zone of the city and is the nearest you'll get to Beausoleil unless your holiday rental has a helipad, entirely possible in this part of the world. Beausoleil is a short taxi ride away. |

|
flights depart every 20 minutes from Nice, takes 7 minutes and costs about 95 Euro per person one way. |
 | | Beausoleil is essentially landlocked, although at some points it is just several hundred metres from the sea. So Monaco is again your port of call. There are two Ports in Monaco, Port Hercule and Port of Fontvieille. Port Hercule has recently been extended to include a new 90 metre sea wall.
There is continuing development of the port area ongoing, with new berths being created all the time. Port Hercule has berths for 500 vessels while the smaller Port of Fontvieille can take 60 boats.
