The Belle Epoch era in the South of France was inspired by the many wealthy visitors who came to the South of France to speand the Winter season. Wealthy beyond imagination as, at this time only the very wealthy could afford the time and cost of travelling.

Grand hotels were being built to entice rich tourists and each new one that was constructed was touted as more grand than the next. The Riviera Palace hotel claimed to be the grandest of all.
