As a small exclusive suburb of Nice, Mont Boron brings you in close proximity to all that Nice has to offer with it's culture, architecture, galleries, museums, beaches, restaurants and nightlife. Browse through the 'What to see in Nice' section to get some ideas or look in the RG Directory for lists of contacts and details.
Mont Boron is, however, not without it's own attractions and unique places of interest. It is one of the oldest settled areas in Nice with sites dating back through the ages of man, while it's elevation has also given it a unique and valuable standing throughout different periods of time.
Musee de Paleontologie Humaine de Terra Amata
It is easy to see that Nice has a long history. Whether you are interested in history or not you cannot fail to notice the architecture, the age of the buildings, the layout of the town around a central market square. These are all things that point us in the direction of Nice's past relationship with the Greeks, the Romans, Italy and France.
It is not the begining of Nice's story however which goes back centuries before and is less apparent to the naked eye. A trip to the Museum will take you on a journey through the ages of man from origin to modern day.
400,000 years ago
The earliest traces of human habitation in this area is thought to date back 400,000 years. Inhabitated by people not as we know ourselves today but as 'Homo Erectus' or 'Upright Man' who predates Neanderthal man by several hundred thousand years.
These people are defined by their use of fire and the very first use of tools fashioned from rudimentary stone cuttings.
These facts help archaelogists to age the traces of human habitation found on the fosil beaches of Terra Amata in Nice. Man began using fire 500,000 years ago and the fragments of manufactured tools found in fossilised stones are also an indicator age.

The remains of ancient hearths arranged around a central point tell the story of the use of fire and also the remains of prehistoric tools and shelter.
These findings indicate the true beginings of Nice when human habitation in Europe was wild and scattered.
Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur
The OCA is a collection of three observatories in the PACA region of which one is located is Nice. The others are sited in Grasse and Vallier de Thiey. An unusual holiday activity perhaps but a rare treat also to have such a facility close to hand and available to the public.
A date with the stars
The Nice Observatory was built in 1881 and funded by the Jewish banker Raphael Bischoffsheim.
It was designed by architect Charles Garnier who was also reponsible for the Carlton Hotel in Cannes and engineered by Gustave Eiffel who's tower in Paris is of some repute.
The 76cm refrecting telescope was the most powerful in its day and some 2000 new stars were discovered here in Nice.
The Observatory is still at the centre of many studies and projects of the night sky and access by the public is not unlimited. There are however, guided tours on saturdays and wednesdays at 15.00.
