Nice Promenade is the centre for much of the activity in Nice. It stretches the entire length of the seafront from Nice Port to Nice International Airport and is a focal point, a landmark and the heart of Nice city. It is used to host parades, exhibitions and events as well as playing front garden to every apartment resident in the city.
Go promenading on Nice Promenade.
It is the reason it was created in the 1800's when the first tourists started arriving on the South coast of France. It is possibly therefore the oldest tourist activity in Nice. Take a walk the length of the Promenade starting at Nice Port and strolling towards the airport. Take a break on one of the famous blue chairs to watch the world go by or to contemplate the vast blue horizon. Use one of the sheltered benches to find some shade, catch up with locals or enjoy a moment of solitude in a busy city.
Cycle the promenade
If you prefer to move a little quicker but remain under your own steam then the Promenade is the perfect cycle route; scenic, easy and with the Promenade having recently been extended beyond the reach of the airport into Cagnes-sur-Mer, a good distance.
If you don't want to hire a bike for too long then take advantage of the city bikes that are moored at bike stations throughout the city. You can sign up online for one day, one week, one month, or one year and use the bikes as and when you please for very little outlay. You can return the bike to any station which means that you can take the bike from one station and return it wherever you end up. Perfect holiday bikes for city dwellers and holiday makers. There are tour operators who offer guided tours of Nice by bike. You'll see the sights, get the inside story on what you are seeing and enjoy finding all the best places in Nice as prescribed by a local resident.
Rollerblade Nice Promenade
This is a favourite pastime on Nice Promenade with all ages, not just for children and not just for experienced skaters. There is a roller station on the Promenade, at the Old Town end, where you can rent in-line blades, old school skates or scooters and arrange lessons or find out about skating the city events.
If you are suffering from roller-skating shyness then simply enjoy watching the acrobatic antics of local experts who like to use Nice Promenade as their own practise ground to showcase their talents.
