Main road into Port Grimaud and St TropezComing in to land, NicePort Grimaud boats

Port Grimaud by Road
The A8 autoroute runs more or less parallel to the coastline from East to West all the way from the French/Italian border to Aix-en-Provence. It does however follow a route, at this point, that is quite far inland as it sweeps behind the Massif des Maures mountains and on up to Aix.

It's not fantastically useful with regards to getting into this region quickly but it one of the prime reasons why this entire area remains so picturesque and unspoilt.
Quiet roads, Port Grimaud

Beat the summer traffic by opting for scooters, bikes or boats to get around. They are the best modes of transport.

Directions to Port Grimaud

If you are travelling along the A8 motorway from the direction of Italy then you are looking for the 'Le Muy' junction as your exit. It is also signed for Draguignan and St. Tropez and is junction number 36. Watch out for speed cameras in the area. There is also a toll booth at the exit as this is a tolled section of the motorway. You can check prices online before your journey, as a guide it will cost under €10 euro, one way, from Nice. Look in the RG Directory under 'St Tropez-Transport' for useful links and contacts. You will find a link of the bottom of every page.

After the toll booth look for a right turn signed posted for St Tropez, the road number is the D25 but, in France, it is better to navigate using place names rather than road numbers. For Port Grimaud follow signs for St. Tropez. This road will take you all the way down to the coast to St. Maxime where you will veer right onto the N98 which will lead you, along a very scenic route, directly to Port Grimaud.

If you are travelling from the west on the A8 then you are looking for the junction onto the A57, signposted Le Luc/Vidauban/Les Arcs/ La Garde-Freinet/ Toulon. Take the first exit off the A57, junction number 13, signposted 'Le Cannet-des-Maures'. You will see signs for 'Route de La Garde-Freinet' on road number D558. Stay on this road through La Garde Freinet and Grimaud onto the D14 and signs for Port Grimaud.

For links and contacts where you'll find more route information then look in the RG Directory under 'St Tropez-Transport-Maps & Directions'.

Buses in the South of France

Information can be a little hard to find and, when found, a little difficult to decipher. There are many different bus operators along the coast and many of the websites are not translated into any other languages. This means that it can be difficult to arrange your trips in advance using the internet if you are not a French speaker.

However once you touch down in France then it is a different matter and services, facilities and information for tourists and visitors is plentiful and easily come by. Most tourist offices have maps, timetables and leaflets for free and information on what tickets to buy and what special offers might be available.

There are urban buses or city buses for each individual town and there are inter-urban buses that link the winding string of towns all along the coast. Port Grimaud is in the Var region of the South of France and the bus service operator is called 'Sodetrav' (Société départementale de transports du Var). Also operating between Saint Raphael and St Tropez is 'Autocars Beltrame'. Both have websites, details of which can be found in the RG Directory under 'St. Tropez- Transport'.

Port Grimaud by Sea

Port Grimaud works beautifully as a combined holiday home/boat rental but reserve if you are just day tripping with your own vesssel.

Water taxis, tours and ferries

Port Grimaud has an element of Venice about it. It is a water city, a floating village and so you could say that it functions better on water than on dry land. You will find water taxis to zip you around between the shore side parking and the town centre.

There are guided tours by boat within the village itself where, for €4, you will be glided around some of the most stunning homes with boats and yachts of every size moored outside the door.

There are also ferries that will take you further afield to St. Maxime and St. Tropez. These serve as a way of beating the heavy summer traffic and as a gentle cruise down the coast. Find details and contacts in the RG Directory.
There are plenty of boat hire places if you want your own independence and lots of operators if you just want a guided tour. There are water taxis and local ferries to take you further up the coast. Details in the RG Directory, click on the link at the bottom of the page.
