For FamiliesPort Grimaud is a great area for families. It's slightly off the beaten track tucked into its own area, cocooned from the main road and the main road traffic. There's a central car parking area but once you are in the main confines of the floating towns waterways then there is very little traffic.
It also has purpose built facilities and lots of space around the area in which you will find a lot of child friendly activities have been built. There are also the miles of beautiful beaches and calm sea in the sheltered Golfe de St. Tropez.
It's an obvious one but also a favourite activity. There are beautiful stretches of white sandy beaches lining the entire Golfe de St. Tropez so even in the busy summer months you'll find a good spot. The thing to remember is that, in Port Grimaud, you have wonderful access to boats for hire.
Hiring a boat for the day will allow you to explore the whole coast line, find quiet shady bays and inlets and go swimming and snorkelling in your own time and place. Use the free public beaches or go for a treat and choose one of the beach clubs.

Tip: Freeze bottles of sirop and water
It'll defrost slowly and mean you have cool drinks for the children for longer. Cheaper than endless cokes too. |
Take a break from the beach and head inland a little bit for a complete change of scenery. Within a 15 minute drive of Port Grimaud you'll find an equestrian centre.
They cater for all levels of riders from total beginners to a little more advanced. Go out for just an hour or take a longer hike through the countryside of the Les Maures mountains. There is a farm with animals for children to see and two day camping trips, perhaps more suitable for older children.
Tip: Look in the RG Directory
You'll find contact details for all kinds of holiday activities. Look under 'St. Tropez- Activities' to find what you are looking for. |
It's a pretty common holiday activity nowadays. It seems that there's always a Kart track within distance of your vacation rental but it is a lot of fun and children love the freedom of being out on a track by themselves.
You'll find a kart track within a five minute drive of Port Grimaud. Sometimes these are quite small, shoved into some industrial zone or tiny and cramped on a promenade or fun park. This track is in a lovely setting and is big and sweeping. A lot of fun.
Tip:Drop into the tourist office
They often have special offer tickets and prices available for local activities. Read them carefully. |
For CouplesPort Grimaud is a really beautiful setting for a romantic weekend. The Port maybe fairly recently built, 1966, but the style and architecture are very much in keeping with the local towns and villages. Hence you will find open leafy squares, winding cobbled streets and beautiful coloured houses to meander through.
| If you have rented a holiday or vacation home in Port Grimaud then chances are it will have a mooring attached to it. It's the perfect combination of sea and land and amazing to be able to step out of your house and onto your own boat.
There are lots of companies to hire one from for just a day or a week, with a skipper or without. It will open up the whole coastline to you and no need to worry about drink driving, if you have a skipper, so lots of time for long lunches with the local vino. Or just take a guided tour boat trip if you don't fancy driving yourself.
|
Tip: Pick up one of the free boating magazines
You'll find all the free ads for buying boats but you'll also see rentals which can often be from individuals and better deals than hire companies.

| This area is famous locally for its wines. This part of France receives the most sunshine so the grapes are naturally sweet and high in alcohol content. They don't improve with age so they are made for the local market and meant to be enjoyed quickly.
There are plenty of vineyards offering tours and tastings in this area you, just have to choose which one you are interested in. Try the lovely refreshing cold Rosé, some French bars serve it in a long glass with lots of ice. |
Tip: The paler the rosé the better the quality
Generally speaking this is true. Look for one you love and have them ship home some bottles for you.

Yes, they are for kids but it's fun and who says it's not for big kids too. There are a lot of kids activities around this entire area but who says it's just for the young ones.
Play mini golf or ten pin bowling. Hang out for the day at the waterpark 'Niagara' or hit the theme park 'Azur Land' once it gets dark and the kiddies are all in bed. There are some great rides including a reverse bungee and a load of other things designed to terrify or make you throw up.
Tip: Don't eat before you go

Port Grimaud is an ideal spot to get involved in watersports of every kind. The entire place is designed around water and water activities. You'll find lots of boat hire companies, diving schools, wind surfing, water skiing and jet skis to hire.
In France you need a permit or license for vessels over a 6HP engine size, also for jet skis but quite a few places hire out skippers too if you haven't got a qualified driver in your group. There are also small license-free boats to hire too so you'll still be able to get out on the water.

If there's a gang of you all ready to pitch in on the cost then it really is better to get the biggest boat that you can afford. It'll be more comfortable and you'll be able to go further. |
St. Tropez town is across the bay, a lot more accessible if you have a boat but still just a short hop by road. It's worth the effort as the night spots are world famous. Le Cave de Roi is probably the most famous club here.
It is located in the Byblos hotel and has quite a cult following with hot DJ's and their own music compilation releases. Dress to the nines and dig deep into your pockets, are they deep enough for a €20,000+ bottle of bubbly? Drink, dance, have fun, buy the T-shirt, listen to the CD.
