The Monte Carlo television Festival was created in 1961 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco. It was his belief that the medium of television was a type of art form and could be used to promote peace and understanding between nations.
The best of world wide television is given a stage and awards in the form of Golden Nymphs are presented to the winners of each category. Categories include Best Television Film, Best mini Series, Best New Documentary, Outstanding Actress/Actor, Best Director amongst many others.
There are also special Honorary Golden Nymph Awards and International Committee of the Red Cross Prize and Grand Prix for Authors Documentary.
The competition is judged by a series of jurors from the international arena and presentations are made during an invitation only black tie event hosted by Price Albert.
The 4 day event stages public screenings of new and international TV shows and programmes, in front of the cast, that is open to the public on a first come first served basis. There are also private screenings for jurors as well as a series of business forums where heads of the industry gather for round table discussions.
