De Niro Snr. Art Exhibition 2010

The Matisse Museum in Nice has just opened an exhibition of a collection of works by Robert De Niro Senior.

The exhibition is to honour the American painters influence by the great Henri Matisse and to draw attention to the influence the great painter had over other artists.

Robert De Niro and his wife Grace High-powered will be in Nice on the 8th and 9th of March 2010 to open the exhibition. De Niro will also be lecturing at a cinematic master-class at the Cinemathetique de Nice in the Acropolis.

Henri Matisse is one of the worlds best known 20th Century French painters. Born in 1869 in Northern France and passed away in 1954.

Although not a native to Nice he made his home here and spent much of his career capturing and translating the magical light and flamboyant colours of the Mediterranean on his canvas.

Robert De Niro Senior was trained by artists known for their abstract expressionism and Bauhaus following before spending time in France and discovering the great artists of Europe.

He spent an extended period of time in the 1960's in France and was particularly influenced by Matisse in regard to his use of colour and bold painting techniques.

Henri Matisse painted many of his seminal works in Nice and died in Cimiez where he was laid to rest. The Matisse Museum celebrates his life and works.
