Mipim, held annually in the French Riviera resort of Cannes, is the premier international gathering of property developers, multi-millionaire investors and city leaders.
More than 21,000 people from 74 countries attended the 17th annual event last March, several hundred were accomodated in MIPIM rental apartments in Cannes by Riviera Rental Guide.

 MIPIM 2011 was a positive affair, despite the industry being in something of a down turn, or at least not at the dizzying heights of recent years, and surveys showed that real estate professionals left the 2011 Cannes event in a more buoyant mood than when they arrived and that what they had discovered at the show had changed their minds in certain areas.
All the figures pointed in the right direction with participant figures up on 2010 by 6% to 18600 participants in the Cannes property event and 6400 companies and 90 countries in attendance, an increase of 11% and 4000 key investors, up 6% on last years show.
The United Kingdom was well represented especially as it was chosen as a Country of Honour for the 2011 event in recognition of it's contribution to the industry over the 22 year span of the MIPIM property show. It was a thoroughly international affair however, with 90 countries represented including many African nations, South America, Australia and New Zealand as well as significant interest from China.
Chine was perhaps predictably a big talking point of the international property and real estate event as it is the largest emerging market and is being cited as one of the world's prime investment opportunities. The Asian lunch was over subscribed as investors scrabble to understand the diversity of the market.
Local authorities were conspicuous in their attendance and there was a special Mayors lunch and a closed door Mayors think tank as local authorities shared ideas and concerns for the future. London Mayor, Boris Johnson gave a key note speech in which he referred to the need to "put the village back into the city", and quality of life and sustainability both at home and in the work place were high on the agenda.
London and Sao Paulo featured prominently at this years Cannes property event as both cities have huge development plans ongoing owing to their position as host cities for the 2012 Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup. Also, for the first time, representatives from Chongquing, Chinas 4th largest city, were on hand to showcase their development plans which will see the city double in size by 2020.
Many older western cities will have to look to these vast fast growing modern cities to help address their own need to modernise and grow at home.
The MIPIM 2012 real estate event in Cannes will focus on buildings. It will be asking and hopefully answering questions such as what are the most sought after investment opportunities, which buildings are the most attractive, why and what are tenants prepared to pay for them.
Germany will be the nominated 'Country of Honour' so for anyone with an interest in the German real estate markets, MIPIM 2012 will be essential viewing for you.
