Nanni Moretti has been named as President of the Jury for the 65th Cannes Film festival 2012. The Italian actor, director and producer was delighted with his appointment, having been a participant on the jury member 15 years ago whereby he was impressed with the level of respect and diligence applied to the entrants.
"As a director, I was always very moved when my films were presented at the Festival de Cannes. I also have very happy memories of my experience as a jury member during the fiftieth anniversary season, and of the attentiveness and passion that went into the jury’s viewing and discussion of all the films,"
Moretti takes over the most prestigious role in cinema festivals from American Hollywood legend, Robert De Niro Festival director, Thierry Frémaux reportedly, "wanted to celebrate its 65th season with a European jury President".
For those not familiar with the Europeans work, Nani Moretti is no stranger to the Cannes Film festival having presented six films in previous years, including at last years event with his critically acclaimed entry 'Habemus Papam', (We Have a Pope).
Moretti hails from Brunico in Italy but has since made Rome his home. He began his movie career with two short films in 1973 and has had a career that has since spanned four decades. He is a writer, actor, director, producer and editor.
The 2012 Cannes Film Festival commences on 16th May 2012 and concludes on 27th May 2012. |
