The Cannes film festival has always been a glamourous affair. Since it's inception, way back in the 30's, the Cannes Film Festival competed with the more renowned Venice film festival as 'the' event to be seen at.
In reality it was the tiny bikini clad teenage Brigitte Bardot who launched the full scale glamour attack on the festival when she frolicked on the beach for the cameras. Admittedly she was minus the five star gown but she was primped and preened with flowing, professionally ruffled locks and smokey black eyes, to historical effect.
The Cannes Film Festival has developed into, not just a show case for some of the film world's best movie talent, it is also the perfect international platform to show off designer duds and perfect pins.
This year, recession or not, visitor numbers down or not, the glamour stakes were as high as ever with cutting edge trends on full display, from slashed asymmetrical necklines, to thigh skimming frocks, from cutaway sheer shimmering gowns to hot metallic tints, all the latest trends were to be found on the famous red carpet.
Of course the biggest stars, causing the most popping of the flashbulbs, managed to combine current trends with old school, full scale Hollywood glamour, Robin Wright Penn in flowing silver, Eva Hertzegova in a sheer cutaway number and Sharon Stone showing why she's as hot as ever in her 50's in a thigh high ball gown.
Causing the biggest sensation however, was none other than Hollywood royalty Angelina Jolie Pitt, accompanied by the ultimate accessory of course, Mr. Pitt. Angelina ticked all the fashion boxes in a soft and flowing, feminine dress in the prettiest of pinks that was slashed to the thigh lest we think that she is going soft on us. |
