Not content with revisiting the horror of eighties fashion or mugging us down memory lane with 80's music now we are going to have to sit through 80's movies again. Wasn't it bad enough that we all mistakenly thought that 'bat-wing' graphic jumpers were stylish or that our big back combed hair had to expand wider than our bolstered shoulders?
All this while we bumped along to white middle-class synth-rock or wore our cycling shorts to techno clubs with smiley faced flyers. Please don't drag us back to Cocktail, The Breakfast Club or, heaven forbid, Ferris Beullers Day Off.
Yep it seems we are going there people, so brace yourselves. Oliver Stones remake of 80's classic 'Wall Street' is set for a new release date. Originally it was due to hit our screens in April but the director is keen to have a huge European launch splash by entering it into competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2010.
Michael Douglas reprises his role as money hungry Gordon Gecko who taught us that 'greed is good' in 1987. It seems a twenty year spell in prison has clarified his mind a bit and he is released to warn us all of the impending financial doom about to befall us. Too late Gordon!
If Stone can arrange his release dates then be prepared to see the eighties revival further showcased at the 2010 Film Festival as the Hollywood ladies embrace the 80's fashion trend on the Cannes red carpet. Boys get your white slip on shoes and push up the sleeves of those Miami Vice suits, ladies get back combing, Cannes is threatening to be a Dynasty affair this year. |
