The Château Miraval has a long and illustrious history first appearing in the history books as a monastery in the 1200's. It was later listed on the register of noble houses when the Prince of Naples made it his home in the 1400's.
It passed into the Orsini family, a devout and noble Roman family that has produced no less than 3 elected popes, where it remained for centuries. The estate then passed into the hands of Joseph Lambot who is famous for having invented reinforced concrete.
In the 1970's jazz pianist Jacques Loussier created a recording studio at the Château and musicians such as Pink Floyd, Sting, Sade and The Cranberries have all recorded there.
In 1993 the estate was bought by its current owner, an American industrialist from Indiana called Tom Bove. Bove made his fortune from the relatively unglamorous medium of mobile display modules but his passion for wine brought him on a tour through the beautiful French countryside.
On discovering the neglected estate of Château Miraval which was producing inferior wines he and his wife snapped it up immediately and began the process of lovingly restoring the house and grounds.
The estate is now a full working vineyard producing entirely organically produced wines of a high quality. No doubt the wines may be found in the neighbouring restaurant of world renowned chef Alain Ducasse who owns a small hotel very close to the château which features one of his michelin starred restaurants.
The Château is currently being rented by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for the next few years to provide a safe and secure haven for their ever growing family. |
