Cirque du Soleil has come to be recognised globally as one of the most innovative, creative and dynamic circus shows of all time. The initial concept of the show was to mix street performance and circus art when it was first created by street performers Guy Laliberte and Daniel Gauthier in Canada in 1984.
It had a rocky beginning and the company juggled a lack of finances, inexperience and the task of innovating something new to eventually overcome weak reviews and create one of the most contemporary circus' in the world with several permanent shows in Las Vegas and more than 30 concepts having toured the world.
And this year the magic will be coming to Nice. Cirque du Soleil will present their show 'Alegria' from March 7th until March 11th 2012.
Alegria is a Spanish word literally meaning 'jubilation' although it represents a state of mind. The show is a self titled 'Baroque Ode to the energy, grace and power of youth'. the acts include aerial high bar, contortion, fire-knife dance and synchronized trapeze amongst others. All set to a powerful musical back drop that has made the Alegria soundtrack album one of the best selling Cirque du Soleil CD's of all.
The show is being staged in Palais Nikaia. Tickets start at 45 per person with ringside seats available from 78 per person. Book online at the official Cirque du Soleil website or from usual ticket outlets including Fnac and Carrefour locally.
