The recent financial dramas that have seized the worlds markets seems not to have hit the French Riviera just yet. With property prices across the globe taking a tumble Sir Tom Hunter, a Scottish billionaire businessman, has no cause to worry. He has reportedly sold his luxury Cap Ferrat villa for a cool €50million. Although spokesmen are fairly closed mouth on the deal the new proprietor is said to be a Russian oligarch who made Hunter, a property entrepreneur and retail king, an offer that he just couldn't refuse. Sir Tom Hunter's personal wealth may have slipped a little in the current financial climate but is still reportedly in the region of €750 million so the sale of his South of France home probably has little to do with the credit crisis hitting everyone's pocket. The luxurious villa is said to be one of the most desirable certainly on the Cap Ferrat if not all of the French Riviera. It is rumoured to have the largest private infinity pool in all of Europe although with the competitive spending that has been going on in the last ten years this may be indeed be an out dated claim. The villa has been the venue for many a private function with some of the world's most illustrious guests. In 2002 it was the scene of a charity dinner hosted for the Princess Royal while in 2007, in one of the most generous philanthropic gestures ever seen by a Briton, Sir Tom pledged to donate £1 billion to charity. Sir Tom received his knighthood in 2005 for services to philanthropy. He has been a major supporter of charities in the past pledging £6 million to Band Aid, £1 million to Make Poverty History and similar amounts to Children in Need and Comic Relief. |
