Pete Doherty, formerly lead singer with the band BabyShambles and The Libertines, at least managed to show up for his scheduled concert at the Salle Garnier in Monaco last night. The singer is on a short French Tour that saw him in Monaco last night, 30th September 2011, before moving onto Lyon with his entourage on their tour bus.
The shambolic singer has had multiple runs ins with just about everyone from members of the public to the media, to record label bosses and more seriously, the police and has just finished serving a 6 month sentence in jail for drink driving. He continues to battle his addictions for alcohol and drugs, while, rather ominously, being branded 'next most likely to die' by cruel British press but the singer is managing to turn up for his performances, not always the case in the past, and it was much to the delight of the 500 fans who turned up to watch him last night in the glamorous setting of Monte Carlo.
The troubled singer gave a vague but rare interview to Nice Matin prior to his performance and seemed a bit bemused by his surrounding but was in good humour and looking forward to the concert. You can catch up with Mr. Doherty's interview on the Monaco video pages of our guide to Monaco. As for the musical genius of the self proclaimed poet and bon viveur, at least the public are getting a chance to see some of Doherty's performances in the flesh.
