Cannes Film Festival President and film maker extraordinaire Tim Burton has at last premièred his much anticipated Alice in Wonderland 3D feature film.
Joining forces with undoubtedly his favourite actor and alter ego, Johnny Depp and his own muse and wife Helena Bonham Carter, Burton seems the perfect directorial choice to lead us down the Rabbit Hole with his particular and stylised visions that he brings to the big screen.
Depp and Bonham Carter lead an absolute all star cast in this Lewis Carroll classic with Matt Lucas playing Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Alan Rickman the caterpillar, Michael Sheen the White Rabbit, Stephen Fry the Cheshire cat, Anne Hathaway the White Queen to Helena's Red and Barbara Windsor playing the dormouse. A cast of famous and loved actors to suit the famous and adored characters.
Alice herself is played by a relative low key casting of the little known Mia Wasikowska who will be seen in several movies this coming summer.
Despite torrential rain and bitter cold there was a strong showing for the première with many of the cast turning out in Leicester Square and pausing under giant umbrellas to speak with the world's media including Johnny Depp himself, Tim Burton and Helena, David Walliams supporting cast member and friend Matt Lucas and the glamourous Anne Hathway giving a glowing report of working on the movie despite shivering on the red carpet, which was, suitably, green.
The finishing of this film was something that gave Tim Burton pause for thought before accepting the 2010 presidency of the Grand Jury at Cannes Film Festival. Burton's artistic work is also featuring at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and between the two demands on his time are high.
The world famous director doesn't take his role at the Cannes film festival lightly and wanted to make sure that his schedule would allow for him to give it the proper attention that the role of president requires.
Perhaps he will schedule in some holiday time straight after his responsibilities in Cannes have been concluded and can enjoy some of the renowned luxurious sights that Cannes is also so famous for.
