International news agencies have received verbal warnings from the Cannes Film Festival organisers that they may not be able to broadcast video coverage taken from the red carpet at the 63rd annual Film Festival.
The reasons stated, but as yet un-clarified, are due to an exclusive deal that the organisers have signed with French concern Canal Plus and pay TV service Orange. Agencies such as Reuters, Getty Images, AFP and Associates Press Television News are currently in negotiation to get written clarification of the restrictions.
Alison Crombie, of Getty Images, has remarked that they, "consider this to be very unfair". It will have to be resolved before the Cannes Film Festival commences on 12th May 2010 so that we can be sure of getting our red carpet glamour fix.
There will be 4000 credited journalists at this years Festival, as there is every year and this may just be a minor details of specific restrictions but as competition for images and exclusivity rises such deals may be the shape of the future in Cannes.
