The French Riviera is looking a bit retro this summer. Karl Lagerfeld revealed his summer cruise collection for Chanel in Saint Tropez last month with a collection that had a decidedly 1970's trippie hippie feel. It even featured a Rolling Stone, albeit the daughter of Mick Jagger, Georgia May, but she wouldn't have looked out of place lazing on the grass during dad's gig at Woodstock.
Brigitte Bardot has returned to her Saint Tropez home and a summer long exposition will be celebrating her St Tropez heritage. Nothing says Saint Tropez more than that tousled blond mane and bare beach chic of the 60's sex siren.
Bob Dylan will bring 50 years worth of albums and seminal music to the stage in Nice's Palais Nikaia tomorrow night, 22nd June and while his croaky voice may not be at it's strongest he is still rocking the poetry in a way that no other artist can come close to, or probably ever will.
Later in the year we will be blasted by no less than the original hard rockers AC/DC and stretching our legs to the famously bearded ones ZZ Top in the grounds of the palace in Monaco. Iggy Pop may be giving us insurance advice at the moment but will be joining ZZ Top on stage with the Stooges, lets hope he leaves the see through perspex trouser at home.
While the vibe is decidedly vintage it certainly won't be for the faint hearted or those with zimmer frames because all things old at the moment seems to be definitively cool, even the old rockers who are showing the youngsters a thing or two.
So dust off your old concert t-shirts, moth holes and all to be at the cutting edge of what's hot this summer on the Cote d'Azur and get it on with Iggy who says, "The Stooges and I are cocked and loaded to follow up and deliver it live on stage in 2010." Although we recommend taking your fashion cues from Lagerfeld rather than Iggy, it is still the glamourous French Riviera after all, the grubby tees had better be designer. |
