WRC welcome back to Monte Carlo

Posted on Monday, 9 January 2012
WRC welcome back to Monte CarloNot since 2008 has the World Rally Championship brought the seasons opening round to the streets of Monte Carlo. Despite this it is still oldest event on the WRC calendar and the longest running rally event in the sport. So it is with some pleasure, and no small amount of expectation, that this event is returned to the top of the World Rally Championship calendar.

The Rally circus will come to town on the 17th January 2012 and conclude on 22nd January 2012. It may be called the Monte Carlo Rally but the action will naturally take place on the white knuckle, death defying, twists and winds of the French mountains.

The cars will not appear in the pricipality until the later stages of the event arriving on the evening of the 20th January in preparation for departure on Saturday 21st from Quai Albert I.

To get up close and personal with the cars then take a trip down to Port Hercule to wonder at the exotic machinery enrobed in 'sheeps clothing' but to get close to the real action you will have to don your warmest thermals and head for the mountains. Col de la Madone makes a dramatic view point or Col de Turini. Head for Sospel afterwards for hot chocolate with a dash of brandy to thaw out.
